Document_file_format Los archivos Doc son blobs binarios. Se pueden leer usando fopen. Mientras que los archivos .docx son solo archivos zip y archivos xml archivos xml en un contenedor zipfile (fuente wikipedia), puede leerlos usando zip_open.
